| Chairman Speaks |

In an increasingly globalised world, nations and organizations are continually rediscovering their potential for competitive advantage. While different countries are endowed with different sets and levels of natural resources, one common resource across nations, which has limitless potential for appreciation over time is the human resource. Nations and organizations alike have woken up to this reality particularly in this century when ‘knowledge economy’ has begun to impact their overall economic, social and political landscape.
For human resource to be highly productive, innovative and delivering on the challenges, it would need to be given prime focus- for its nourishment, development and enhancement. An organization which believes in the immense potential of human resource and pursues its human resource policies in tandem with its belief, is most likely to get maximum value out of its investment. What are those belief systems, policies and practices which are followed by the most respected and most successful organizations around the world? What are the new competencies required for enriching the human capital in this century? How are they implemented and with what results? Are there any experiences that can teach us some lessons and which will help in strengthening our organisations’ competitive edge?
These and many more such contemporary issues in the domain of HR are part of the staple diet of Academy of HRD. The academy- a professional body, created by scholarly community of academics and reflective practitioners-is engaged in promoting systematic study of HR development theories, processes & practices and in encouraging application of HRD research. The academy also offers high value training programmes for enhancing HR competencies and for developing them as world class people managers.
I am delighted that through this website, we are able to reach out to large number of HR bodies and professionals around the world. I do hope, this website will generate good amount of interest and act as a forum for exchange of ideas on this important subject of the 21st century. |

| HRD being a dynamic process, its focus moves among entities such as individual, group, organisation, community and nation. With new concepts, theories and cumulative experience of scholars and practitioners, the scope of and expectation from HRD interventions have increased. The mounting pressure of Globalisation has added new issues and areas of concern to be addressed by HRD practitioners, researchers and teachers. Survival of enterprise is one such crucial issue which may need new experiments and researches leading to innovative processes in the areas of HRD. Various strategies have to be learnt and used to improve the quality of human assets and produce competitive results and higher organizational performance accompanied by individual growth and well being. The future turf is harder as issues affecting HRD such as corporate governance, gender equity, redundancy of human labour, measures of HRD contribution and accountability of HRD may become more significant and need innovative ideas and applications in research and executive action. The Academy will vigorously work towards these goals within the framework of its mission "To develop HRD professionals and focus on HRD professionalism". |
