Dr. Pradip
Khandwalla releasing our new book, “Developing Leadership for
the Global Era: HRD Perspectives and Initiatives”
Global influences have brought many challenges, and increased
complexity in organizations and society – making Leadership
Development an area of prime focus in HRD & OD. This book
contains 24 papers on the subject, selected and edited by
experts in the field. The papers have grown out of explorations,
experiences, and reflections on practitioners and organization
development teachers, who have been working on developmental
interventions to meet the challenges of globalization and
liberations presented across different dimensions of leadership
development. Specific topics include: Leadership Competencies
for the Globalised Environment, Reflections for Leadership
Development, Interventions for Leadership Development,
Leadership for High Performance and for Culture Building, and
issues involved in Social Sectors. The book brings together
latest studies, and gives strengthened frameworks for successful
leaders.
Edited by: Dr. Uma Jain, Dr. Udai Pareek and Dr. Madhukar Shukla

Governing Board, AHRD
"Higher
education in India, specially the university system, is in a
deep crisis.
Non-functioning of universities and campus unrest have been
taken by the public for granted and these do not raise any special
concern. Recent statistics from the universities also show some
disturbing trends in the drop in enrolment of courses of humanities
and basic sciences in 1977. Dealing with each university as
an institution is necessary to find out how individual universities
can play a vital role in dealing with this crisis at their own
levels. The deepening clouds of despondency have dissuaded most
universities from dealing with the problem, an air of helplessness
has stifled many such efforts. Each university has much more
autonomy than what it may tend to believe. Each university can
do something to diagnose the crisis at it's own level, and create
a new atmosphere".
Management Processes in Universities
Udai Pareek, Ravi J Mathhai, T.V Rao
“The quiet essence of HRD is humanisation
of life raising the quality of life and empowering of individuals
and teams. On the whole, organizations where it is being introduced
and practiced, its essence rests on PEGSS i.e. developing pride
in people, (by helping them to take challenging goals and tasks),
Ecstasy (joy in working on tasks), Growth (continuous learning
on the job), synergy (trust and collaboration resulting in strategy
teams) and the service orientation (providing best and fast
service to the clients, all those who can benefit from the tasks
performed)”

Philosophies and Concepts: The Indian perspective

"NGOs
are trying to break out of a culture of rigid role boundaries
and levels and move towards teamwork, involvement of people
and respect for all
people. There is need being felt to share the vision / mission
of the organizations and also evolve it with the participation
of people rather than only by founders / directors. Quite a
few NGOs are recognizing their
role as facilitators rather than doers. In essence NGOs are
in the process of professionalising their management through
introduction of systems and processes and developing a culture
suitable to the changing needs of the environment and the people
who are joining the organization."
